BlueRare [A Trap Music Mix]

Shortly after finishing my most recent new mix release, Lucid Dreaming, I realized that I have yet to create one of these specifically for the trap music fans out there. For those who don’t follow music history, ‘trap’ can actually refer to a couple of different musical styles. The first origins trace back to some time in the early 90’s, and apply specifically to a southern-born style of hip-hop; the ‘drum kit’ for these tracks consisted of a heavy bass kick, hi-hat cymbal, and hard, sharp snare drum sounds. Over the next decade, synthesized percussion became more commonplace, and eventually replaced the ‘trap’ drum kit in addition to adding various faux-brass, string, and heavy bass instruments. Around the early-to-mid 2000s, the ‘trap’ sound became a mainstay for many emerging and existent rappers who were looking to add a darker, heavier vibe to their music. If you listened to hip-hop around this time, you’ll most likely remember artists like T.I., Lil Jon, and Rick Ross (to name a few) suddenly releasing songs that were markedly more bass-ey. This trend has continued strongly into the current decade, and can be heard in particular in most chart-topping rap and hip-hop songs released in the last couple years.

As far as EDM trap is concerned, the heavy bass-kick/hi-hat/snare combo started appearing in various electronic subgenres sometime in 2012. Artists such as Baauer, Flosstradamus, and the infamous UZ have been credited with popularizing the sound. As of 2015 or so, you can find ‘trap’ drum and bass sounds in everything from pop, to dubstep, to deep house, to future-bass music. Now that I’ve bored you to tears with a history lesson, allow me to re-energize you with some bangin’ EDM trap heaters:
